Malahat Nation, 第一吃瓜网 signed a partnership agreement to develop in-community adult education

The partnership to deliver the Malahat SOAR adult education program was celebrated at a special ceremony at Malahat Kwunew Kwasun Centre on Oct. 28. SOAR is an acronym for Supporting Opportunities, Achievement and Resilience and reflects the programs commitment to reconciliation by uplifting Mel鈥檜xulh mustimuhw (Malahat People) through education tailored to their aspirations and needs.

鈥淲ith the Malahat Nation promising to become one of the biggest economic drivers on South Vancouver Island, the SOAR Adult Education Program prepares Mel鈥檜xulh mustimuhw to fill job opportunities at all levels, including trades, STEM, clerical and management roles,鈥 says Josh Handysides, CAO of the Malahat Nation.

The program launched in September 2024 and is at capacity with 14 students.

鈥淧ermanent, full-time jobs are coming, we want our people to feel ready for all of these opportunities and lead the economic development at the Malahat Nation."

Malahat Nation Chief Gordon Harry

第一吃瓜网 will deliver the SOAR program to Mel鈥檜xulh mustimuhw within the community through upgrading courses in English and Math.

鈥湹谝怀怨贤 is excited to be a partner in the delivery of the SOAR program, especially with the opportunity to break down barriers and opening doors to education for learners in their community,鈥 says Dr. Lane Trotter, President, 第一吃瓜网. 鈥淲e want to see learners succeed and thrive whether in gaining employment or being successful in other college or university programs.鈥

  • Enhance employability by equipping learners with the skills they need to be competitive in the labour market and achieve their full potential.
